A computer based approach to epigraphy will prove to be a leap forward not just in the recording stage but also in the publication stage. The final product will be a searchable database in the form of a computer model of the temple which will allow users to search the hieroglyphic texts and even the pictorial scenes for individual words and phrases and even, it is hoped, for iconographic features such as a certain type of crown worn by the king or costume of a god. While it promises much in the future, our digital epigraphy project is still in its infancy.
